Sparrow & Dragon's Fall Mahjong League brings together players across Greensboro and the Piedmont Triad for 6 weeks of friendly, rules-based competition. Whether you learned to play in one of our beginner classes or you've been playing for years, the league is built to challenge you, connect you with other local players, and give you a standing reason to get your hands on the tiles every week. Oh, and did we mention prizes? Our league offers weekly raffle prizes (think mats and racks), and the winner with highest cumulative score at the end of 6-weeks takes home our grand prize. Only 28 spots available!

A league is a series of matches where you play for a score. Keeping score is easy, and I’ll walk you through it. Your score will accumulate each week and our highest overall score after 6 weeks will win our grand prize.
-
To join a league, you should feel comfortable with the rules of American mahjong and understand the order of play. The most important thing will be pace of play. Each week we will play 3 games in two hours, so you should be able to play a full game in around 30 minutes.
-
Possibly. While all attendees will be held to a high standard of courtesy, National Mahjong League Rules are clear about when a player is dead. As we are playing for a score, you may be called dead if you have too many (or too few) tiles, expose a concealed line, or have a faux-jong. If this happens, you simply sit out the rest of that one game.

If you cannot attend, we ask that you let us know at least 24 hours in advance so that a sub can be found to play in your place. If you know of a potential sub and want to arrange someone to take your place, that would be delightful!
If you no-show more than one week without notice, you may forfeit your place in the league.

A seventh week of play included in the price, our kick-off event will be held on Monday, September 28 and will be an opportunity for everyone to familiarize themselves with the space before the league begins. We will go over scoring and explain raffle prize drawings before social open play with your fellow league-mates.
